March 31 is World Backup Day.
Whether you have information stored on your phone, computer, or server, March 31st has been declared World Backup Day to bring awareness of keeping your information safe. For people that already have backups, it’s a great time to make sure that the backups are working properly, and the data has been verified. We all know someone who has suffered from loss data either from a hard drive that went bad, a ransomware attack, a natural disaster, or even human error. Stop the suffering by making copies of your information!
What is a 3-2-1 Backup Strategy?
A 3-2-1 strategy means you have at least 3 copies of your data, 2 of which are local but on different mediums such as hard drives, NAS (Network Attached Storage), or thumb drive and a 3rd off-site backup such as BackBlaze, Spideroak, or CrashPlan. You can even get software that will do all 3 backups at once. Arq is a great software that is super easy to use, and you can back up to multiple locations at once. You can find their software at arqbackup.com.
Don’t forget to backup your phone! Sometimes backing up your phone is hard to remember to do, but iPhone has made it easy to backup to their iCloud system. It backups everything, including photos, applications, and text messages. All this is done automatically through the wifi without thinking about it. But if you have an Android phone, you can use many cloud services that will store your information such as Google Photos to store all your photos, Google Drive to save your files, and SMS Backup and Restore for your text messages.
If you are a business and just backing up the server, this may lead to data loss. Most business owners know that it is essential for their server(s) to be backed up. But what about your computers (desktops, laptops, Macs)? Though it’s true that quite a bit of your data is stored on your servers and backed up on your network, your computer itself (your icons, your background, all of your settings, your local files, music, and pictures you have stored, and all of your software applications) is most likely NOT being backed up. If your computer were to crash, get a virus, or simply die, all of that information could be lost. The company data that you’ve saved to your server would still be there IF you are keeping everything to your server (a big if for many people), but everything else would be gone. You would have to recreate that computer by reloading all of the software and settings. And if you’ve ever had this happen to you, you know that it can take a significant amount of time to do. What a pain!
We solve this problem by automatically taking periodic images of your computer. Imaging software takes a “picture” or “snapshot” of your computer, so it records it precisely as it is with all of the software, settings, and local files you have on it. This way, if your computer ever crashes, there is no need to reload everything onto it and reconfigure the computer. Simply restore your last “image” from before the crash, and your computer can be back to its old self again. This is a huge time saver and can be a lifesaver when something goes wrong. We are offing this service Free for 30days as a trail valued at $20/month/desktop. See for yourself how simple it can be to keep your computer data and files safe and sound. You may be amazed by the peace of mind that you find when you are completely backed up!
